ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the rationality of decompressing extraction on Salvia mihiorrhiza and to optimize the decompressing extraction process of salvianolic acid B from S. mihiorrhiza. Methods: HPLC was applied to determining the content of salvianolic acid B. Plackett-Burman design, Box-Behnken design, and response surface analysis were used to screen the main factors and optimize the decompressing extraction process for salvianolic acid B. Results: The optimal decompressing extraction process for salvianolic acid B is that S. mihiorrhiza was immersed in water for 12 h and kept in the dark before extracting, the optimal process parameters were as follows: extraction temperature 80°C, extraction time 89 min, and the ratio of liquid to solid 11. Under this condition, the experimental results for extracted content of salvianolic acid B was 5.01% on average. The deviation rate of predicted value was -1.54% on average. The establishing mathematical model was consistent with the experimental data. Compared with the atmospheric pressure extraction, the content of salvianolic acid B was increased by 28.87% and the dry extract yield was reduced by 9.01%. Conclusion: Using Plackett-Burman design and Box-Behnken design method to optimize the decompressing extraction process of salvianolic acid B from S. mihiorrhiza is scientific and feasible. The method is reliable, accurate, reproducible, and predicted. The decompressing extraction is suitable for the extraction of salvianolic acid B.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of puerarin and compound salvia injection on P2selectin change in patients with traumatic cerebral infarction(TCI)so as to understand the difference of their curative effect. Methods Twenty patients with TCI were randomly divided into four groups,ie,conventional treatment group, puerarin group, compound salvia injection group and combined treatment group to observe the improvement of the symptoms(Glasgow Outcome Scale,GOS)and change of plasma P2 selecfin after treatment. Results The symptoms(GOS score)and level of plasma P2 selectin in the puerarin group, the compound salvia injection group and the combined treatment group were superior to those of the conventional treatment group(P<0.05).The TCI patients had obviously higher level of plasma P2 Selectin than the healthy persons before treatment. The level of plasma P2 selectin was decreased after treatment, with better curative effect in three other groups compared with the conventional treatment group. Conclusions There is positive synergistic interaction between puerarin and compound salvia injection. Both puerarin and compound salvia injection Can decrease the level of plasma P2 Selectin to reduce the blood viscosity, inhibit the platelet activation, reduce the cerebral vasospasm and inhibit the thrombosis,as contributes to the recovery of the TCI patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of salvia mihiorrhiza on spinal cord ischemia reperfusion injury after surgical treatment in patients with cervical canal stenosis. Methods Retrospective analysis of 64 cases had cervical canal stenosis in the last 5 years in our hospital. Sixty-four cases were randomly divided into the salvia mihiorrhiza group(31 cases)and the control group(33 cases). The therapeutic effect was assessed using JOA grade system. Results In the salvia mihiorrhiza group, the JOA average score was 8. 8 ±2. 6 before surgical treatment, after two weeks of surgical treatment it was 13. 7 ± 2. 4. The JOA improvement ratio was (61. 5 ± 2. 9) % . In the control group, the JOA average score was 9. 1 ±2. 2 before surgical treatment, after two weeks of surgical treatment it was 13. 4 ± 2. 3. The JOA improvement ratio was (60. 5 ± 2.2)% .The JOA improvement ratio in the salvia mihiorrhiza group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0. 05) . Conclusions Salvia mihiorrhiza has protective effect on spinal cord ischemia reperfusion injury.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the protective effect of salvia miltiorrhiza for enteral nutrition in S-MODS model rats. Methods: 70 Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group (n=10), model group (n=20), nutrition fibre group (n=20) and salvia miltiorrhiza for enteral nutrition group (n=20) . The experiment period was 12 days. At the end of experiment, blood routine, biochemistry index (ALB, AST, ALT, BUN, Cr, CK and CK-MB), the concentrations of IL-6,TNF-α and IL-1β were measured. Results: The model was successful by clinical manifestation, blood routine and pathology. The clinical symptom was improved, blood routine and pathology damage were relieved in salvia miltiorrhiza group. The concentrations of IL-6, TNF-α and IL -1 in salvia miltiorrhiza group were lower than model group and nutrition fibre group(P<0.05).Conclusions: Salvia miltiorrhiza for enteral nutrition could prevent gut function damage, protect intestinal mucosa and decrease the concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
